Longest Six In IPL History
In a competition such as the IPL, every side needs guys who can hit sixes at will. These power hitters also enhance the enjoyment of the game for the audience, who like to witness long sixes during the tournament.
In the most recent season of the Indian Premier League, Nicholas Pooran hit the longest six, measuring 106 meters. Given Nicholas Pooran’s free-flowing innings, it was not unexpected. MS Dhoni and Sanju Samson were also capable of hitting sixes from 100 meters.
Who has hit the longest six in the history of the financially lucrative league? The answer is former all-rounder Albie Morkel, which is quite unexpected given that MS Dhoni and Chris Gayle did not top the list.
Morkel struck IPL longest six of 125 yards against Prayyan Ojha during the inaugural round of the IPL in 2008 while he was playing for Chennai Super Kings. He is the only player in IPL history to surpass 125 meters. Fans still recall Morkel’s blazing knock against RCB in which he scored 28 runs off of Virat Kohli’s over.
The second guy on the roster is likewise not a batting specialist. In the 2011 IPL, Praveen Kumar hit a six of 124 meters against Lasith Malinga, making him a dark horse on this list.
Adam Gilchrist struck six of 122 yards while playing for the Punjab club during the same season. The 120-meter six hit by Robin Uthappa while playing for RCB in the 2010 IPL places him in fourth place on the all-time list.
Chris Gayle’s 119-meter-six hits during the 2013 season place him in a tie for seventh place with other players. Another player renowned for smashing sixes, Yuvraj Singh, has also hit a 119-meter six. Ross Taylor, who began his IPL career in 2008 with RCB, blasted a 119-yard six in the first season.
Ben Cutting scored 39 runs off only 15 balls in the IPL 2016 final, helping SRH win the championship. He smashed a six of 117 meters in this innings, sending the ball out of Chinnaswamy stadium. Next on this ranking are Gautam Gambhir and Liam Livingstone, with 117-meter sixes each.
Not only did the Punjab team deliver the high-flying Titans only their second loss in the season, but Liam Livingstone also hit the longest six of IPL in the current edition during the match. Livingstone’s huge six propelled the Englishman into the top 10 list of longest sixes in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Livingstone hit Mohammed Shami for the longest six of the season in the 16th over when facing the Indian bowler. The 117-meter shot left everyone, including the bowler, in wonder. Livingstone swung hard and placed the ball in the upper deck of the DY Patil Stadium, leaving Shami with a grin.
Livingstone’s shot caused captain Mayank Agarwal to leap from his dugout position. Livingstone smashed Shami for 28 runs in the over, and the Punjab Kings went on to win the match by eight wickets despite Livingstone’s performance.
While Livingstone has been four times in the top ten list of the greatest sixes this season, the longest six in the history of the glamorous T20 league was struck in the first season. This year is the 15th edition of the event, and Albie Morkel’s record has yet to be surpassed.
In 2008, during a match between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers, Morkel hit Pragyan Ojhan for a 125-yard six. He is the only athlete to surpass 125 meters.
The second player on the list, who follows him closely, is somewhat unexpected. RCB’s Praveen Kumar struck the second-longest six, which he previously accomplished in 2008.
While Livingstone’s smash propelled him into the top ten of all-time longest hits, MS Dhoni, who hit 115m, slipped out of the top ten.
M Chinnaswamy Stadium, meanwhile, has witnessed some of the most powerful shots in IPL history. At the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, five of the longest IPL sixes have been struck, including Chris Gayle’s mammoth innings of 175 off 66, in which he smashed a 119-meter maximum against Ashok Dinda.
After Livingstone’s 117-meter six in the current edition, Dewald Brevis of Mumbai Indian is second on the list. Brevis smashed Punjab Kings’ Rahul Chahar for a huge 112-meter maximum. Livingstone appears four times in the current top ten rankings, with hits of – 117m, 108m, 106m, and 105m.
